If the Los Angeles Chargers move on from Anthony Lynn, he might be a hot name on the market.

The Los Angeles Chargers are sitting at 3-9 entering Week 14. It’s not because of their lack of talent though. In fact, it’s far from it. Instead, coaching has cost the team multiple wins after allowing opponents to come back and claim victory on their own.

When that happens, the blame is officially put on Anthony Lynn.

Lynn, who helped Los Angeles get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013, has proven he can win as the leader of a franchise. Two years of winning records and back-to-back seasons of mediocrity have led to Lynn posting a record of 29-31 in Los Angeles.

Lynn was promoted to offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills after Greg Roman’s departure in 2016. Outside of eight games as the play-caller, his rise from positional coach to head coach has been met with mixed reviews.

Still, sometimes it’s best to play that middle man and build your connections before taking over completely as the leading man. If the Chargers elect to move on from Lynn this season, he won’t be unemployed for long.

Which teams should hire Anthony Lynn if he becomes available?

The Detroit Lions could be a team to watch out for in the hiring of a new head coach more so than a coordinator. One of the biggest achievements in Lynn’s career is transforming Philip Rivers back into a top-10 passer.

In 2018, Rivers enjoyed a resurgence as the next big name of the older quarterbacks thanks to smart play under center. He finished the season throwing for 4,308 yards and 32 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. In each season under Lynn, the now-Indianapolis Colts quarterback tallied at least 4,300 passing yards and two years of 12 turnovers or fewer.

If the plan is to keep Matthew Stafford as the guy in the Motor City, perhaps Lynn can fix the minor mistakes suffered over the past two years. Injuries aside, the 32-year-old has regressed little by little each season, failing to throw for 4,000 yards since 2017. Lynn also could be paired with a general manager focused on building a defense to make up for poor offensive outings each week.

Lynn might be a good head coach for the Lions, but he’d make a great coordinator focused on fixing Stafford’s mistakes.
