Scouting Report. AL. 43. Pick Analysis. East. New York Yankees. 2.. player

The New York Yankees, unsurprisingly, are in the race for Molina. When looking back at the franchise’s history, they’ve never shied away from signing a big name. But there’s more to the situation.

New York has a Gary Sanchez problem. 2020 was a disastrous affair for the one highly-touted Yankees prospect. He was a home-run-or-bust player when stepping into the batter’s box, as evidenced by his .147 batting average and .253 on-base percentage. Sanchez was even worse behind the plate, as he was slow and lethargic. In 41 games, Sanchez committed six errors and had a league-high five passed balls to his credit.

This is where Molina can step in. The Yankees made it known they haven’t given up on Sanchez just yet, as they tendered him a contract. But they could bring in a mentor in Molina to help clean up his game. At this rate, manager Aaron Boone needs to consider all options to help improve the frustrating star. If the Sanchez experiment fails, they can at least start Molina full-time, while giving backup duties to Kyle Higashioka.

The Yankees need to do whatever it takes to return to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2009. Bringing in Molina would be a wise use of their resources.
