Yes, the harsh reality is that someone will hire Adam Gase to coach again after the 2020 season.

Adam Gase remains the head coach of the New York Jets for tanking purposes. At this point, giving the job to someone, anyone relatively smarter than him might cost the franchise a chance at a do-over with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence in April of 2021.

Gase’s head coaching track record was abysmal well before he joined gang green. One look at how players such as Ryan Tannehill and DeVante Parker have flourished without him proves his style of coaching might be the problem. During his days in South Beach, the Dolphins went to one postseason appearance when no one knew what they were.

Outside of his first season, Gase’s record all-time is 20-40.

Sometimes it’s best to hit the reset button and learn from the basics. At one point, Gase was considered the next up and coming offensive guru during his time working with as the Broncos offensive coordinator. That might be too high of a title after the implosion of the Jets’ league-worst offense in 2020.

Someone will give Gase a chance to fix his mistakes on another roster. The question now is who is foolish enough to do so?

Bill Belichick did credit Gase entering their early-season matchup back in October. Early in his career, Gase worked under Belichick and Nick Saban during their time at Michigan State. Following his firing from the Dolphins, the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach reached out to Gase with advice.

“After I left Miami, he called me and we had a discussion about that ending and seeing what I was going to do moving forward,” Gase said. “That was kind of the starting point there. We just had a conversation to kind of just see what my next steps were going to be.”

Josh McDaniels might be out the door with another NFL franchise this offseason. If he stays, New England always could use someone in the quarterback room. Gase won’t fix the problems under center, but Cam Newton also doesn’t have any receivers to throw to. If he did, that wouldn’t make a difference.

Sometimes it’s best to learn under someone you respect. If Belichick is willing to give Gase a paycheck, let that be his problem and the internet’s gain.
