With a win against Arkansas, Alabama football has secured their spot in the College Football Playoff regardless of the SEC Championship Game outcome.
Alabama football has guaranteed their spot in the College Football Playoff after defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks. It was a near-certainty, but the win clinches a spot in the four-team playoff regardless of what happens against Florida in the SEC Championship Game.
Had the unthinkable happened and Alabama was upset by Arkansas and lost to Florida in the SEC Championship Game, hell would have frozen over and the Tide would have been left out of the College Football Playoff.
Alabama has locked up their spot in the College Football Playoff
In a worst-case scenario, if Alabama loses the SEC Championship Game to Florida, they’ll still be the No. 3 or No. 4 team.
Naturally, Nick Saban and his team isn’t thinking about that scenario and are focused on winning all their games and winning another national championship.
It’s almost unfair they even had to play this rescheduled game this weekend instead of having an open week ahead of the game with Florida. The same goes for Florida who is making up their game vs. LSU. Both should have had the weekend off after clinching their divisions. This game was an unnecessary risk for their playoff standing as well as injury and with COVID.
In the end, it didn’t cost Alabama who can now start preparing their travel plans for the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 where they will likely play Ohio State.
