Young super middleweight phenom Edgar Berlanga kept his first-round KO streak going with another quick finish of Ulises Sierra.

Bruising Brooklyn super middleweight Edgar Berlanga made quick work of Ulises Sierra on the undercard of the Shakur Stevenson vs. Toka Kahn Clary ESPN boxing showcase from the MGM bubble.

Many wondered if the power-punching Berlanga could keep up his first-round KO streak. Coming into his fight with Sierra, Berlanga had won all 15 of his professional fights by first-round knockouts.

Nothing changed against Sierra on Saturday, Dec. 12.

In round 1, Berlanga came out aggressively as usual. It didn’t take long before his sledgehammer right hand beat Sierra to the canvas. Sierra had nowhere to go but down.

Bravely, Sierra got to his feet at the count of nine, but Berlanga kept up his assault. Berlanga’s punches sent Sierra bouncing off the ropes like a ragdoll. The referee correctly ruled it a knockdown since the ropes saved Sierra from going down.

After taking the mandatory eight count, Berlanga came back at Sierra and nailed him with a left hook that dropped Sierra for the last time. He couldn’t beat the count, and the referee didn’t bother finishing it.

The fight was over.

It took Berlanga two minutes and 39 seconds to finish Sierra.

Earlier in the week, Berlanga told FanSided that they had to up Sierra’s pay to get in the ring during a media call. Berlanga showed why opponents are fearful to fight him. He might be the most powerful puncher in the division.

Berlanga is rated as the 23rd best boxer in the division by Boxrec.com, but his stock is rising about as quickly as he knocks opponents out. Look for him to grace the top 10 in no time. He might be the next great fighter of Puerto Rican descent. Berlanga’s KO streak moves on to the next fight.
