Kyle Trask finds Kadarius Toney to break Danny Wuerffel’s Florida football touchdown record.

Kyle Trask has thrown for more touchdowns in a Florida football season than Danny Wuerffel.

In their rivalry game vs. the LSU Tigers, the No. 6 Florida Gators needed a spark to take back the lead over the feisty Bayou Bengals. The Heisman Trophy hopeful quarterback was able to find his star wide receiver Kadarius Toney on this pass in the flats, which resulted in his 40th touchdown pass of the season. Trask has now thrown for more touchdowns than Wuerffel did back in 1996.

Kyle Trask has flourished playing in Dan Mullen’s system

The Florida passing attack had not been the same since former offensive coordinator Dan Mullen left Gainesville to be the Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach ahead of the 2009 college football season. After nine years in Starkville, the Urban Meyer disciple returned to the Sunshine State to be the Gators’ next head coach. Trask has been there every step of the way under his head coach.

With this being a shortened college season, for Trask to throw for 40 touchdowns in 10 games is a remarkable feat. Keep in mind that Wuerffel did this in the Fun ‘n Gun for the Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier during the Gators’ unforgettable 1996 campaign. Wuerffel became the second Heisman Trophy winner in school history. Trask is on the precipice of being the fourth to do it.

Florida needs more fourth-quarter heroics from Trask if it wants to avoid being upset by LSU.
