Texas football fans are not the least bit thrilled about Tom Herman returning as head coach.
Texas football fans will be getting at least one more year out of head coach Tom Herman.
Herman will be back for a fifth year in Austin. In four years, the ‘Horns have one 10-win season, one New Year’s Six bowl victory and not a single Big 12 Championship or College Football Playoff appearance to show for it. Simply put, Herman has not brought Texas back yet.
If Urban Meyer wanted the job, he would have gotten the job
Herman’s former mentor Urban Meyer was considered for the job if Texas were to move on from him, but he reportedly was not interested in the gig at this time.
Looking at Texas AD Chris Del Conte's "statement" about Tom Herman -- and watching some in the media make wild assumptions about it -- I recall the Ben Bradlee line from All The President's Men:

"What the hell was that? A non-denial denial?" #HookEm
Is Texas back? No, but Tom Herman is.

Tom Herman returning as University of Texas’s head coach?

Yes, there were other candidates to consider replacing Herman with Iowa State Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell, Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal and Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian likely on the shortlist.

Oh well Texas hopes got dashed again they thought they had Nick Saban and he turned them down now Urban Meyer has turned Texas down an now they are keeping Tom Herman 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️

However, Texas does not feel at this time it is ready to part ways with Herman just yet after year four and in the midst of a global pandemic.

Only reason Tom Herman survived is probably bc Urban didn’t want the job

Tom Herman is a hypocritical dweeb and it makes me happy that he is keeping his job because as long as he’s there, Texas is not back.

As long as Texas is not able to compete for conference championships with the likes of the Oklahoma Sooners, Iowa State or even the Baylor Bears, Herman will be criticized for his head-coaching shortcomings.
“Congrats to Texas on keeping Tom Herman” — Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia.

Texas HC Tom Herman isn't exactly getting a ringing endorsement from Chris Del Conte, is he?
— Lisa Horne (@LisaHorne) December 12, 2020
If this were a normal college football season and Texas was not in as tough of a financial situation as it may be in, parting ways with Herman after four years would be certainly more feasible. Since there is no home-run candidate in this offseason cycle worth paying a massive buyout to get Herman and his staff off the books, Texas will not be making a change until at least 2021.
Texas fans are understandably frustrated that Herman gets a fifth year to keep being mediocre.
