DK Metcalf got creative with his touchdown celebration, giving us a two-for-one and the Seahawks a 15-yard penalty.

Just about everyone was expecting the Seattle Seahawks to right the wrongs from their bad game against a New York football team by embarrassing the other.

DK Metcalf got an early start on the course correction, scoring a touchdown and then turning in a celebration that rubbed salt in the wound.

It appeared as though he was about to go full Bo Jackson with his touchdown celebration by running into the tunnel. While DK did do that, it was just the appetizer to his actual celebration which was leaping into the stands to commandeer a FOX camera.

A few things on that:

  • DK clearly thought about this on the spot. As he runs into the tunnel, the wheels start turning and you can see him decide in real time that he’s about to turn his touchdown celebration up to 11.
  • We’re in the middle of a deadly pandemic, and running up on someone while you’re not wearing a mask and getting entirely inside of their bubble seems like a really poorly thought out part of this plan.

DK got hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty, but he’ll also lose points for being derivative of someone else’s celebration. Two years ago, Tyreek Hill pulled the same trick and — if we’re comparing the two — did it better.

It’s no coincidence though that two of the best receivers in football (and arguably the two best) think alike when it comes to celebrating their touchdowns.
