The Georgia Bulldogs seem to have their focus set on one school to replace Vanderbilt for this weekend’s game.

Playing college football in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic was always going to be a challenge. On a weekly basis, nearly half the scheduled games are canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks on specific teams. That happened yet again, as the Georgia Bulldogs’ rescheduled game against the Vanderbilt Commodores was officially canceled on Monday. With Georgia looking to play their home finale this upcoming Saturday, they’ve targeted a specific team to play as a replacement for Vanderbilt.

According to Radi Nabulsi of UGASports.com, Georgia has targeted the Colorado State Rams to play this weekend.

The reasoning for Colorado State being targeted by Georgia is because they don’t have a game scheduled for this weekend.

The SEC has a COVID-19 protocol in which a team can only play if they have a minimum of 53 scholarship players available for the game. Specifically, each program must have seven offensive linemen, four defensive linemen and a quarterback. Vanderbilt, who has been dealing with an outbreak since October, reportedly had 49 scholarship players available for their game against Tennessee this past weekend, per Adam Sparks of the Nashville Tennessean. With this game being officially ruled a no-contest, Vanderbilt now has their first winless season in program history.

Meanwhile, Colorado State’s scheduled game against Utah State was canceled this past Saturday after the Aggies sat in protest of the alleged comments University President Noelle Crockett made about the religious and cultural background of interim head coach Frank Maile. That was officially the fourth game canceled for the Rams this season. In fact, Colorado State only played one home game this campaign.

Georgia would like to have a proper Senior Day for their departing players, but it’s unknown if the two programs will reach an agreement or if the game will get approved or if the Bulldogs find another opponent. We should get an answer at some point this week.
