Michigan football at Iowa football will not be played due to COVID-19 issues within Michigan.

Michigan football’s season is done, as its game vs. Iowa football has been canceled due to COVID.

2020 was a trying year for the Big Ten. The Michigan Wolverines were expected to contend for a Big Ten East division crown but ended up going a disastrous 2-4 in their coronavirus-shortened season. Jim Harbaugh‘s team did not even win a game in The Big House this year. As for Iowa, they may look to get another team scheduled to play on short notice, possibly out-of-conference.

The pain is finally over for Michigan football fans this season

Few Power 5 teams of note were a more catastrophic disappointment than the Wolverines. While going conference-only led to many decent teams having considerably worse records than in most years, Michigan finished in sixth place in its seven-team division. This was not what anyone was hoping for in Harbaugh’s sixth season back leading his alma mater’s program. What happens now?

Michigan’s season is finally over. COVID issues and frankly, a lack of interest in continuing this god awful monstrosity of a football season will prevent the Wolverines from playing in a meaningless bowl game. With 2020 now in the rearview mirror, Michigan can hope to get back to respectability after a season that was anything but that for the Big Ten blue-blood football program.

As for Iowa, Kirk Ferentz’s Hawkeyes are the second-best team in the Big Ten West behind only the Northwestern Wildcats. Iowa has played great ball of late and would surely love to play someone on Saturday, if Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren allows it. It would be cool to see Iowa play the Georgia Bulldogs for the first time in school history. Georgia is in need of an opponent.

Ultimately, 2020 has been a year of great compromise and sacrifice. If you cannot get comfortable with being uncomfortable, then I do not know what to tell you. While getting an Iowa vs. Georgia game on the schedule would get any Power 5 football fan excited, let’s not count on that actually happening. That said, expect both the Dawgs and the Hawkeyes to play in holiday season bowls.

Michigan fans can get back to enjoying their lives without experience any more pain on Saturdays.
