Per a report, the 2021 Major League Baseball season could be pushed back to May following another labor dispute.

Just when you thought things were looking for for Major League Baseball to begin its regular season in April, there may be a change of plans on the way. That’s because according to the USA Today, MLB owners and execs are hoping for players to be vaccinated for the coronavirus before heading to spring training.

With this, it could result in the start of the season moving back to May. As a result, a 162-game season could be shrunk to around 140 games instead. The MLB Players Association does not want that to happen and remains hopeful a full season can be played. So, how will things shape out?

There’s a chance the 2021 Major League Baseball season could be pushed back to start in May

With cases and deaths of COVID-19 continuing to skyrocket, it’s clear team owners want to make sure players and coaches are put in the best possible situation to compete and not be at risk of getting the virus. With that said, it could result in the start of the season being delayed, which the players clearly don’t want.

Last season, there was nothing but drama in the discussions as to whether or not a campaign would be played. Finally, the two sides agreed to the shortened 60-game schedule for the regular season.

The players were able to adapt to the circumstances and we watched the Los Angeles Dodgers bring home another World Series title. While the 2021 season isn’t at risk, the fact that the owners and players are already not on the same page on how to move forward is a terrible sign.

As of now, the players are hopeful they can get on the field soon for spring training. If the owners have their way, though, we could see teams wait until everyone can gets vaccinated before we can see the guys at the ballpark.
