1. Marcus Mariota

Mariota had largely been an afterthought this season until being thrust into action on Thursday night for the Raiders after Derek Carr’s injury. The former No. 1 overall pick successfully kept the Las Vegas attack moving with his arms and legs before succumbing to the Chargers in overtime.

Like Winston, Mariota has already squandered an opportunity to be a team’s starting quarterback. In sharp contrast to Winston, Mariota’s issues in Tennessee were almost exclusively related to his ability to stay healthy. If the Steelers move for him they’ll need to take a close look at his medical records before making a sizable investment.

If they do believe his body can stand up to the punishment of being an NFL starter, he’s got the right combination of arm talent and mobility to fit into the Steelers’ offense. Remember, Roethlisberger has been successful this season without pushing the ball down the field. Mariota certainly has the accuracy to keep the Pittsburgh offense on schedule with short and intermediate throws.

The other big question on Mariota is whether or not the Raiders are going to let him go. Paying a backup $10 million could be a luxury Jon Gruden decides he can’t afford. If Mariota does hit the open market, the Steelers should make him a top priority.
