Dallas Cowboys. 2.. 123. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LB. Jaylon Smith. player

We’ve mentioned earlier that the Cowboys defense is abysmal, so why on Earth would they subtract from it. Why, for financial purposes of course! When looking at the biggest contracts on Dallas’ defense, edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence and Jaylon Smith come to mind. But based off reports, it appears that Smith may be shown the door in the very near future.

According to Albert Breer of the MMQB, the Cowboys feel that Smith hasn’t lived up to the five-year, $64 million contract extension he signed back in 2019. To be specific, those inside the Cowboys facility are “alarmed’ that Smith is at the center of the majority of big plays given up by the defense. That’s certainly something Cowboys fans don’t want to hear when it comes to a player who’s under contract until 2026

Through three-plus seasons in Dallas, Smith has 467 total tackles, 20 run-stuffs, 20 passes defensed, nine sacks and six forced fumbles.

It’s not all doom and gloom, because the Cowboys are in the range of selecting stud Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons with their first-round selection. That, in turn, would allow the Cowboys to trade Smith for assets. A change of scenery could do wonders for Smith, preferably on a team with a solid defensive coaching staff.
