Did the New York Jets just lose out on the No. 1 pick by beating Rams?

The New York Jets finally won a game and won’t go 0-16, but did they just lose out on the No. 1 pick?

Is it possible to have the biggest win of your season also be the biggest loss?

That’s what the New York Jets are going to try and figure out after pulling off the upset of the season in Los Angeles. The Jets rolled into SoFi Stadium to play the Rams without a win but left for the airport with their first of the season.

But in beating the Rams and shocking the entire league, the Jets have jeopardized their future. No one will be talking about how improbable or incredible the upset is because the headline out of the Jets win is that they no longer control the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Without the No. 1 pick, all of the talk about Trevor Lawrence coming to New York in April has gone up in smoke.

Here’s what the current Top 5 of the draft order is now that the Jets have mercifully ended their winless streak:

  1. Jaguars (1-13)
  2. Jets (1-13)
  3. Bengals (2-10-1)
  4. Panthers (4-10)
  5. Falcons (4-10)

Can New York Jets still get the No. 1 pick?

There’s still hope that the Jets can land the No. 1 pick, but they’re going to need help.

The Jaguars last two games of their season are against the Bears and the Colts — both games it’s hard to see them winning. The Bears are a true wild card since you never know what you’re going to get out of them (and more specifically Mitchell Trubisky). But the Bears have the slimmest of slim playoff hopes, and beating the Jaguars would keep those hopes alive.

New York finishes its season against the Browns and Patriots, both games they’ll likely lose although after their win over the Rams we can’t count anything out.

We don’t know who will end up with the No. 1 pick but we do know that after 15 weeks its Jacksonville, not the Jets, that now controls the top pick and the future of Trevor Lawrence.
