2020 NFL power rankings, Week 16: Jets win, Patriots out
It was far from pretty but the club’s 10th win of the season enabled Pete Carroll’s club to clinch a playoff spot for the eighth time in the last nine years. Running backs Chris Carson (63) and Carlos Hyde (55, 1 touchdown) and quarterback Russell Wilson (52) combined for 170 of the team’s 181 yards on the ground. Wilson threw for only 121 yards and wound up with another interception. But he also hit tight end Jacob Hollister for a 10-yard score.
The team was in position to sweep the Texans for the second time in four years and the Colts jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Led by DeForest Buckner and his three sacks, Frank Reich’s defense made life miserable for Deshaun Watson, who threw for 373 yards and two scores but was dropped five times and lost a fumble. And as was the case two weeks ago at Houston, the Colts came up with a key takeaway late in the game to secure the win.
Workhorse Derrick Henry ran 24 times for 147 yards and one score. But it was also a huge afternoon for veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill as the Titans reached 10 wins for the first time since 2008. The 2019 NFL Comeback Player of the Year connected on 21-of-27 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns, plus also ran for two scores. Tennessee came away with three takeaways while the club played turnover-free football in the 21-point win.
