Doug Pederson all but confirmed the team is moving off of Carson Wentz in 2021.

For those who still believe that Carson Wentz will be back under center in 2021, think again.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson announced rookie Jalen Hurts will be the Eagles’ starting quarterback for Sunday’s Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Barring injury, one should expect him to remain the leading man for the rest of 2020.

Hurts, who made his second career start in a 33-26 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, looked the part of a franchise quarterback. The former second-round pick finished 24-for-44 passing for 338 yards and rushed for 63 yards.

He also threw three touchdowns and tacked on another with his legs.

“Obviously, I’m going to continue to have Jalen [Hurts] start this week. I’m focused on only this week,” Pederson said.

Anyone who’s watched the Eagles this season understands that Hurts gives the team the best chance to win. However, it’s the comments that cement Wentz’s future status with the team.

“Obviously.”

That’s a clear indication the franchise is done with the once MVP-caliber quarterback.

Wentz could be on the move in 2021

Wentz, who agreed to terms last season on a four-year, $128 million extension, now is riding the pine in a season he hopes to forget. Take away the injuries and lack of weapons, it’s still the worst season of the 27-year-old’s career.

In 12 starts, Wentz saw a career-worst in interceptions (15) and sacks taken (50). He’s also 31st in completion percentage (58.1%).

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Wentz feels “betrayed” by the Eagles organization and has since the team drafted Hurts last April.

After one year out of the Nick Foles limelight, now he’s back taking heat from critics.

Wentz has no desire to remain with the franchise if he will be a backup. The problem there is finding a trade partner to eat most of the money owed on the quarterback’s massive deal. Heading into the 2021 offseason, Howie Roseman will have plenty to discuss on the team’s future.

A loss to Dallas officially eliminates the Eagles from the postseason. A win might give Roseman the answer on what to do with Wentz’s future.
