St. Louis Cardinals have every reason to be excited with the way Genesis Cabrera is playing during winter ball.

While much of the attention for St. Louis Cardinals fans this offseason has been about whether or not Yadier Molina will return, they shouldn’t forget about other guys on the team. For example, Genesis Cabrera is putting on a show right now and it’s gone far too unnoticed.

Pitching down in the Dominican Republic for some winter league action, Cabrera has been nothing short of outstanding. Thus far, Cabrera has made six relief appearances and is yet to give up a hit.

Indeed, Cabrera is making batters look foolish at the dish, showcasing some nasty stuff leading into the 2021 regular season. In addition to not allowing a hit in his six appearances, the lefty has struck out 10 batters. This of course is exciting for the Cardinals, especially after Cabrera showed flashes of brilliance last year during the shortened campaign.

In 2020, Cabrera posted a 4-1 mark and recorded a 2.42 ERA in 19 appearances. He also allowed only 10 hits in 22.1 innings of work. As you might imagine, this really fired up all the St. Louis supporters, as the future is most certainly bright for the 24-year-old hurler.

Looking ahead to the 2021 season, Cabrera will only see more time on the bump. He’s emerged as one of the best relievers on the team and is clearly someone skipper Mike Shildt has plenty of trust in. The hype around Cabrera is only going to grow if he continues to dominate this winter down in the Dominican Republic. Get hyped, Cardinals fans. This kid looks like the real deal.
