Dan Snyder settled sexual misconduct claim for $1.6 million in 2009

While the Washington Football Team has been able to put their tumultuous offseason behind them as they chase a division title, that shouldn’t obscure the fact that owner Dan Snyder was at the center of a story that peeled back the curtain and unearthed a culture of rampant sexual harassment in Washington. Snyder’s behavior has once again landed him in difficulty, as his transgression from the latter half of the 2000s are coming back to haunt him in 2020.

The Washington Post followed up their original bombshell with another concerning anecdote about Snyder, reporting that court records filed on Monday show he settled a sexual misconduct lawsuit for the sum of $1.6 million in 2009. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy declined a request to comment, per the Post.

The employee, who only spoke under the condition of anonymity, claims that the allegations were made in April, and they were fired soon thereafter. In the agreement, which was signed in July, both Snyder and the organization denied any wrongdoing.

The Post’s bombshell from earlier featured the stories of 15 employees sharing tales of sexual harassment from either Snyder or his equals, the most eye-popping of which was the production of lewd videos made from outtakes of cheerleader calendar shoots from 2008 to 2010. After the original story broke, a further 25 women came forward sharing similar stories.

Washington might be on the verge of turning things around on the football field, but success and reputable standing within this sport will be hard to come by as long as Snyder is signing the checks, with this latest report only serving to further the notion that Snyder is one of the worst owners, if not the outright worst, in the NFL.
