It’s looking like the 2020 campaign may be over for Raheem Mostert, as the running back has suffered another high-ankle sprain.

In what’s been a year to forget for the San Francisco 49ers and running back Raheem Mostert, things were only made worse on Sunday in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys. In the second half, Mostert went down with an ankle injury and couldn’t get back on the field.

On Tuesday, the team announced the speedster has suffered another high-ankle sprain. Now, it’s looking likely that we’ve seen No. 31 carry the ball for the last time this campaign.

49ers running back Raheem Mostert is likely done for the season with another ankle injury

Mostert suffered a high-ankle sprain earlier in the year, which resulted in him landing on Injured Reserve. He made his way back, but was still bothered by the injury. Leading up to last week’s game against Dallas, Mostert had an MRI on his ankle, but was able to practice late in the week and suit up against the Cowboys.

Unfortunately for Mostert and the San Francisco offense, the running back dinged up that same ankle once again and appears to be done for the rest of the year. To make matters worse for head coach Kyle Shanahan, quarterback Nick Mullens injured his elbow and needs surgery, meaning C.J. Beathard will start in Week 16.

Jimmy Garoppolo of course went down with his ankle injury earlier in the season. Shanahan came out and said on Tuesday that he’d be surprised if his franchise quarterback would be able to hit the field again this year.

Following the loss to Dallas, San Francisco is now 5-9 on the year. It’s been a rough go for the team, and this latest update on Mostert only adds to the pain for the fans. It just hasn’t been a great 2020 for San Francisco.
