Jaguars QB Mike Glennon will get his chance to exact revenge against the Bears.

Gardner Minshew hasn’t been an amazing quarterback this season, but he has been one of the pieces worth watching on a Jacksonville Jaguars team that is likely to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Because the Jaguars want to make sure that there is no chance Minshew balls out, wins a game, and makes them lose out on Lawrence, Mike Glennon will be the starting quarterback for their Week 16 game.

The Jaguars, destined to do everything to secure the chance at selecting Lawrence, sent Minshew back to the bench, opting to start Glennon against the Chicago Bears.

Mike Glennon has been much worse than Gardner Minshew in limited action this season

After Minshew, who has 16 touchdowns against just five picks this year, hurt his thumb, Jacksonville went with rookie Jake Luton. While he played well in his first two starts, an embarrassment against the Steelers confirmed in Doug Marrone’s mind that Glennon was the answer at quarterback.

Glennon, a former third-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who was booted after two seasons in favor of Jameis Winston, signed a huge three-year deal with Chicago in 2017, but the selection of Mitch Trubisky in the 2017 NFL Draft ended his stint as the starter after just four games.

Glennon has just three touchdowns against three interceptions in three starts, all of which have been losses, this season. Glennon will get a tough Bears defense in Week 16 before playing Indianapolis in Week 17. While the Colts are likely headed to he postseason, they are the only team Jacksonville has beat this season.

Jacksonville, apparently not worrying about the optics of blatantly putting inferior players out on the field in an attempt to lose on purpose, a move that could ruffle some feathers within that organization, is going all-in on securing Lawrence.
