Utah Utes confirm death of running back Ty Jordan

Utah Utes freshman running back and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Ty Jordan was killed in a shooting the morning after Christmas.

Ty Jordan, the Utah Utes sensation who ran his way to Freshman Offensive Player of the Year in the Pac-12, was the victim of an early morning shooting the day after Christmas.

According to ABC4 Utah,  Jordan was shot and killed in the morning hours of Dec. 26. Details of his death are still being investigated but it’s being classified as an accidental shooting.

Unconfirmed reports trickled in throughout the morning, but the school has since confirmed Jordan’s passing.

No further details were made available by the University.

Despite a season that was abridged due to COVID, Jordan still finished his freshman season with 597 rushing yards on just 83 carries with six touchdowns and averaged 119.4 rushing yards per game. He is also the first freshman to have three-straight 100-yard rushing games since 1995 and managed to do all of this in just five games in 2020.

All of that pushed him to rank ninth in the country and first among freshman and is what helped him earn Freshman Of The Year honors in the Pac-12.

Originally from Mesquite, Jordan first committed to the Texas Longhorns before switching his commitment and signing a letter of intent to play at Utah. He was a four-star recruit out of high school and was coveted by big programs like Oregon, USC, and Wisconsin who all made him offers before he ultimately chose to commit to Utah.

Just two days before he was killed, Jordan added to his accolades by being named the AP Pac-12 Newcomer Of The Year.
