3 teams that should take a chance on Dwayne Haskins in 2021
By Mike Luciano
Dwayne Haskins’ days in Washington might be numbered, but his pro career isn’t over just yet.
Not even two seasons after Washington took him in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, quarterback Dwayne Haskins appears to be on his way out in DC, as his maskless party coupled with poor play has Ron Rivera starting Alex Smith over him as Washington chases a division title. Jason La Canfora is reporting that Haskins has completely lost trust within that organization, and he will likely not be in their 2021 plans.
Haskins still has a rocket for an arm and can cite the dysfunctional environment in Washington as reasons he hasn’t made the leap to stardom yet. These three teams should be willing to give him a second chance.
These 3 teams should consider bringing Dwayne Haskins on board and trying to resurrect his career
Kirk Cousins is firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback in Minnesota, both due to his improved production and hefty price tag. However, despite their reliance on Dalvin Cook and the running game, Minnesota is one bad turn of Cousins’ ankle away from seeing their 2021 hopes go up in smoke, as Cousins’ backup is a 28-year-old with zero career touchdown passes in Sean Mannion. An upgrade is sorely needed at that spot, and Haskins could get a chance to recalibrate in Minnesota.
Mike Zimmer is one of the most authoritarian, demanding coaches in the league given how sparsely he doles out compliments. If he can’t scare Haskisn straight, few in this league can. In Minnesota, Haskins will get the benefit of an All-Pro running back in Cook, two star receivers in Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, and coaching from a well-respected offensive mind in Gary Kubiak. Haskins would be surrounded by a much better infrastructure than he had in Washington, and that could lead to an uptick in production if called upon.
