Chiefs trick play setting up pass to Patrick Mahomes was a disaster (Video)
The Kansas City Chiefs tried to get cute against the Atlanta Falcons and they paid for it dearly with an embarrassing play.
What in the world were the Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid thinking on this play? On 4th and 1 in the first half against the Atlanta Falcons, the Chiefs tried to get cute and paid for it dearly. Straight up, this was embarrassing.
Kansas City drew up a play that would have stolen the show had it worked, with Patrick Mahomes hoping to catch a touchdown pass on a nifty trick play. The only problem for Reid is that the Falcons knew exactly what was going on, and made him look foolish in the process.
Kansas City attempted one of the worst trick plays fans will see all season
Seriously, what was the thought process here? Why not just run the ball up the gut with either Le’Veon Bell or Damien Williams for a first down? Instead, Reid thought Sammy Watkins throwing across the field to Mahomes for a touchdown would put the Chiefs on the board.
This play had no chance of working from the start. Was Mahomes supposed to leap high into the sky to come down with that ball? He’s not Randy Moss for goodness sakes. All in all, Kansas City’s offense has looked sluggish in the first half against the Falcons.
If Kansas City wants to improve to 14-1 on the year and take down Atlanta at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, they’re going to have to clean things up and fast. While the Falcons have had a rough year, they’ve still got studs like Matt Ryan, Calvin Ridley and others who are ready to make them pay for making such silly mistakes.
