J.K. Dobbins broke a Ravens rookie record that has stood for 20 years

In one swift move, J.K. Dobbins is now in the record books for the Baltimore Ravens. 

When a team leads the NFL in rushing, they likely have at least two quality options. Although Mark Ingram and Lamar Jackson stole the show last season, rookie J.K. Dobbins is now the leading man in the ground attack.

Against the New York Giants, he entered the Baltimore Ravens‘ history book.

During the first quarter, Dobbins would pile in from the goal line for a 2-yard touchdown, giving the Ravens a 14-0 lead. That would mark his seventh touchdown this season, beating former Pro Bowler Jamal Lewis for the most rushing touchdowns by a rookie in franchise history.

The Ravens lead 20-3 over the New York Giants as they hope to remain alive in the AFC playoff race.

J.K. Dobbins is the future leader of the Ravens Flock run game

Since being selected out of the second round, the former Buckeye has been viewed as a steal for Baltimore’s ground game. Dobbins currently entered Sunday with 110 rushes for 568 yards and 18 receptions for 120 yards.

So far, he’s rushed for 47 yards off eight carries to go along with the score.

One thing many believed was that Dobbins would help Jackson improve as a passer since his dual-threat skills transition well. Instead, he’s been the leader of the running back group and is second behind the reigning MVP on the rushing game in Baltimore.

Dobbins proved during his days in Columbus that he could be a lead back at the next level. Jackson still needs to improve on his passing, but at least they have a foreground to build around Dobbins long-term.
