Patrick Mahomes gave the Falcons a gift-wrapped interception when the Chiefs were driving.

Patrick Mahomes might be leading the league in passing yards as the 13-1 Kansas City Chiefs look to take home the top seed in the AFC, but he is not infallible, as he can make some risky throws from time to time. Raheem Morris and the Atlanta Falcons have done a solid job keeping him contained, and their patience paid off when Mahomes turned the ball over early in the second half.

Foye Oluokun was the recipient of a very rare poor throw from Mahomes, and Kansas City’s quest to take the lead on the first drive of the second half ended in failure after Mahomes threw it right to him and extinguished any hope of scoring on what looked like a very dominant drive up until that point.

Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been dominating against Atlanta

The Chiefs have looked all out of sorts against Atlanta today, even choosing to pass up a field goal earlier in the game in favor of a weird trick play that involved Sammy Watkins chucking it deep. Unsurprisingly, that move backfied, and the Falcons were able to breathe a sigh of relief.

The Chiefs not only look out of sorts against a below-average defense, but they are doing so in a game that was supposed to serve as a showcase for offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka. Teams might not be as crazy to interview and/or hire either of them after this showing, as the play-calling has many chiefs fans understandably confused

Still, the suddenly motivated Falcons deserve a ton of credit, as Morris has this team playing much harder than they did under Dan Quinn over the last few seasons.
