The Memphis Grizzlies star suffered a left ankle sprain during Monday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.

The Memphis Grizzlies haven’t gotten off to the greatest start this 2020-21 NBA season, as they dropped their first two games against the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks. They entered Monday night with the hopes of securing their first win of the season against the shorthanded Brooklyn Nets, but they received quite the scare.

During the second quarter, Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant went for a shot block attempt on Nets swingman Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. In the process, Morant landed on Luwawu-Cabarrot’s foot and awkwardly rolled his left ankle, forcing him to leave in a wheelchair.

Shortly after leaving, the Grizzlies’ public relations team announced that Morant was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a left ankle sprain.

Morant returns in walking boot

Morant would eventually return to Memphis’ bench area on Monday night, but did so while wearing a walking boot. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, x-rays revealed that Morant didn’t suffer a fracture in his left ankle, but are waiting on his MRI results. The team should receive an answer by Tuesday.

Through the first two games of the season, Morant had been averaging 36.0 points and 8.0 assists, while shooting 58.3-percent from the field and 33.3-percent from the three-point line.

Grizzlies fans will be waiting for Morant’s MRI results with bated breath. While he did avoid a fracture, the walking boot isn’t exactly the greatest of signs in regards to the seriousness of his injury.
