16-team College Football Playoff National Championship: 1 Alabama vs. 2 Clemson

So even with 16 teams making it into the College Football Playoff, the simulation still ends with the No. 1 and 2 ranked teams in the final poll duking it out for the National Championship. And when you look at the actual four-team field, it would be a legitimate shock if there was any other outcome besides Alabama and Clemson renewing a postseason rivalry for the title.

The Crimson Tide and Tigers have provided fans with some instant classics over the years and, given the caliber of both of these teams, it’s not difficult to get to a point where you think this could be another chapter in that epic tale between the two programs. But the question then becomes who would emerge as the champions.

For me, it comes down to the Alabama offense. For as good as Trevor Lawrence is and the top-end potential of the Clemson defense, the Crimson Tide offense is the best single unit in college football this season. From the offensive line to the quarterback to the skill position players, they can beat you on every single level.

Clemson simply isn’t able to match that. This matchup figures to be similar to how the Tigers matched up with LSU a year ago — a competitive game where Swinney’s team is just a slight tier below. So at the end of the day, the top-ranked team is the best team as the Alabama Crimson Tide completes a perfect season to be crowned National Champions.
