DK Metcalf is right on the verge of setting a new Seahawks single-season record.

DK Metcalf has emerged as one of the best receivers in all of football in only his second NFL season. The Seattle Seahawks wideout leads the team with 1,282 yards and is approaching history.

Steve Largent has held the franchise’s single-season receiving record since 1985 with a final total of 1,287 yards. Metcalf just needs one short reception to etch his own name into the record books.

Metcalf set for a new record

The season Metcalf is having is one of the best for a receiver in Seahawks history. He is one of only three players to have at least 1,200 yards in one season. Largent did it three times and Koren Robinson had 1,240 yards back in 2002.

Now Metcalf can become the first Seahawk to reach the 1,300-yard mark with a catch or two Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

The receiver’s pace has even slowed in recent weeks, making his season total even more impressive. He finished with 59 yards last week and hasn’t reached triple-digits since November. Fans may recall that game when Metcalf had 177 yards without a touchdown in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Metcalf has gone over the 100-yard mark five times this season and put up 161 yards the first time he met up with the 49ers earlier this season. He had 12 receptions in that game, a season high for him, and had two touchdowns as well in a 37-27 win.

The Seahawks have already won the NFC West and are still in play for the top seed and that lone bye in the conference. That means there is plenty to play for and Metcalf should be a big part of the gameplan.

This is still only Metcalf’s second NFL season. He may be breaking many more records once this one falls.
