Former Texas commit Quinn Ewers may decommit from Ohio State with Steve Sarkisian in tow
Could Steve Sarkisian convince Quinn Ewers to recommit to Texas?
Changes are coming to Austin with the firing of Tom Herman and the hiring of Steve Sarkisian and it’ll have ripple effects on the recruiting trail.
One-time Texas commit and No. 1 2022 recruit, Quinn Ewers, backed off his pledge to Texas football earlier this fall when Herman’s job status was in question and committed to Ohio State.
It’s a long way until he’ll be able to sign his letter of intent and Texas doesn’t intend on backing off recruiting the talented quarterback prospect from Southlake Carroll high school.
Now that Sarkisian is taking the job in Austin, could he convince the 6-foot-3 Ewers to re-think his commitment to Ohio State and recommit to Texas? That’s the big question outside of who Sarkisian will add to his staff.

According to Mike Craven, he thinks it’s a possibility, but admits it’ll be a tough recruiting battle over the next year to get his signature on his LOI.

One of the big failures of Herman outside of winning enough games and losing to too many unranked teams was his inability to keep the top recruits in the state of Texas. One of the biggest culprits of poaching the top talent in the Lone Star State was Alabama where Sarkisian and Nick Saban were able to pick and choose who they wanted.
Additionally, Ohio State, Oklahoma and LSU have raided the top talent in Texas for years which has been a big reason for the struggles of Texas football to return to the upper-echelon of college football, no matter who the coach was.
While Ewers is committed to Ohio State, you can expect one of the first calls Sarkisian makes after settling in as the Texas football coach is to Ewers as he attempts to recruit him back to the Longhorns. And if he’s successful in that, he’ll try to do with him what he did with Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones and turn him into a Heisman candidate and compete for national championships.
