Jay Glazer says pump the brakes on reports that Matt Nagy won’t be fired by Bears

Despite reports that they will be back with the Bears in 2021, Jay Glazer wants to pump the breaks on anything definitive.
To say the Chicago Bears season has been a roller coaster is to truly understate how wild things have been.
Mitchell Trubisky has been both benched, lauded as a savior, then chastised as a failure before reportedly being considered for a new contract. The Bears started the season 5-1, lost six-straight games, and then outscored their opponents 110-51 in three games to claw their way back into a playoff race.
There was a lot of flash and flare to distract from the fact that Bears fans almost universally want Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace gone so the team can try and get on the right track in 2021. A playoff berth and a winning record seemingly indicates the Bears are on the right track, but it’s a case of choosing process or result.
Since the Bears three-game winning streak, it’s been reported that Nagy and Pace will be back in Chicago for the 2021 season. Jay Glazer wants everyone to pump the breaks on any definitive statements.
Will the Bears end up firing Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace?
On the NFL on FOX pregame show, Glazer stated that it’s still to early to tell whether Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace will be back with the Bears in 2021.
“We don’t know if they’re going to make the playoffs or how deep in the playoffs they go,” Glazer said.
The big question is whether the Bears recent success is an indication of progress or if it’s an illusion. While Chicago has scored 110 points over the last three weeks, they did so against three of the worst defenses in the NFL. Lest we forget, Trubisky fumbled away a chance to beat the Lions in Week 13 — a game that had that bears won, their path to the playoffs would be been much clearer.
That’s what Bears fans are afraid of being stuck with. Habitually the team is too good to get a high draft pick but bad enough to never be in true Super Bowl contention. Can Nagy and Pace lead them to that or is new leadership needed?
A few years ago the Tennessee Titans were in a similar position, and chose to fire head coach Mike Mularkey even after he helped the Titans back into the playoffs and miraculously upset the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. Tennessee trusted the process over the result, and ended up hiring Mike Vrabel and playing in the AFC Championship Game two years later with a team that is truly among the AFC’s best.
That’s the sliding doors moment Bears fans are looking at with Nagy and Pace, but what will reality be for them in 2021?
