Jerry Jones quote shows how badly the Dak Prescott deal needs to get done
Jerry Jones made it quite clear on Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys will be ready to do whatever it takes to sign Dak Prescott to his contract extension.
The NFL postseason has officially arrived and the Dallas Cowboys will be watching how things unfold from home. It’s tough to swallow, but the Cowboys’ 2020 season was an absolute mess. The lowest point of course came when Dak Prescott suffered his season-ending fractured ankle.
Once that happened, the Cowboys turned to Andy Dalton to take over the offense. No disrespect to Dalton, but the drop off between him and Prescott is something that can’t even be measured. Jerry Jones knows this, which is why he understands he’s got to keep Prescott content.
How can he do that? Well, the stud signal-caller has been wanting a new contract for a while now. On Tuesday, Jones made it clear it’s time to get things done.
The Cowboys need to finalize a deal with Dak Prescott this offseason
During a local radio show, Jones reiterated that the Cowboys have offered Prescott top dollar in the past and that he doesn’t think the signal-caller has more “leverage” after Dallas missed the playoffs.
At the same time, Jones knows how special Prescott is. He can hurt teams with his strong right arm and his impressive wheels.
If the Cowboys are serious about pushing for another Super Bowl, they need Prescott healthy and happy. The team got things done with Ezekiel Elliott last offseason, signing him to a $90 million extension. With Prescott injured, Elliott wasn’t able to take over as the offensive leader and didn’t live up to his new deal.
This alone shows how valuable Prescott is to this team as a whole. Prescott is continuing to rehab and should be ready for the start of next season. Once Week 1 rolls around, Cowboys fans everywhere are hoping Prescott will have his new contract and the subject alone will no longer be a topic of conversation.
