Duke will try to win without Coach K as they take on Boston College.

The coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc on college basketball this week, including an impact on the Duke Blue Devils. Although no one on the team has tested positive, mandating a program pause, the Blue Devils will be without Mike Krzyzewski as the Hall of Fame coach needs to quarantine following a COVID-19 exposure.

The season as a whole has been uneven for Duke, which is only 3-2 and hasn’t played since Dec. 16 after canceling the remainder of its non-conference schedule and seeing two ACC contests postponed due to COVID positives for their opponent. That is not ideal for a young team that needs game reps to gain the experience necessary to meld into a complete unit.

Associate head coach Jon Scheyer will lead Duke tonight against Boston College, which is in the midst of another poor season. The Eagles are just 2-7 on the young season, but Boston College did challenge itself with a non-conference scheduled loaded with power conference teams.

That slate will help out the Eagles in the long run as this young team will gain valuable repetition against quality competition. Boston College still has a ways to go since they have been blown out in two of their three ACC games, with the one close game being a three-point loss at NC State.

The quality of teams involved here suggests that this should be a bounceback game for Duke, but it could get ugly since the Blue Devils’ long layoff may lead to a prolonged period of shaking off the rust.
