JT Daniels and Jordan Davis will be two of the biggest stars on the 2021 Georgia football team.

The Georgia football program got a huge boost on Thursday afternoon with defensive lineman Jordan Davis announcing he will return for his senior season in 2021. It got his starting quarterback JT Daniels a little fired up about the upcoming campaign as well.

Georgia finished the 2020 college football season with an 8-2 mark and a come-from-behind Peach Bowl victory over the Group of 5 champion Cincinnati Bearcats. The Georgia Bulldogs’ next game is supposed to be a neutral-site affair vs. the Clemson Tigers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. No doubt Daniels was ecstatic with Davis’ message of, “I’ll see y’all in Charlotte.”

Is 2021 the year Georgia finally does the dang thing?

Georgia will be favored to win the SEC East in 2021, as the arch rival Florida Gators are expected to take a slight step back. Depending on how the Dawgs matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide or whoever comes out of the SEC West, Georgia could return to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2017. However, they need to come out and make a statement vs. Clemson.

Back in the day, Clemson and Georgia were bitter southeastern rivals. Clemson University is closer to the University of Georgia than any SEC campus is to Athens. This will be the type of ACC vs. SEC matchup so many college football fans crave. Expect Daniels and presumptive Week 1 starter D.J. Uiagalelei to provide the fireworks during Labor Day Weekend in the Queen City early next fall.

By getting Davis back into the fold for 2021, the Dawgs retain arguably the best defensive lineman in the SEC. Davis is a bona-fide game-wrecker, one who will be instrumental taking Kirby Smart‘s 2021 team to new heights. While marquee players on the defensive side of the ball have turned pro (Tyson Campbell, Richard LeCounte, Azeez Ojulari), Davis’ return is now more important.

Look for Georgia to take all this positive momentum into the offseason program and fall camp.
