Kentucky will look to go to 3-0 in SEC play when they take on Florida.

Can a team come back from a truly miserable non-conference performance and get to the NCAA Tournament? Kentucky is looking to become the poster children of that experiment as they bid to overcome an awful start to the season in order to become a true at-large contender with a strong showing in the SEC.

This week has been good for the Wildcats, who picked up their second straight SEC victory by topping Vanderbilt 77-74 at Rupp Arena on Tuesday. John Calipari’s team received even better news when team doctors cleared Keion Brooks to resume playing after a leg injury sidelined him for the Wildcats’ first nine games.

It’s unclear how much Brooks can play if he suits up today, but his return is a major boon to a Kentucky team that needs his presence down low. Today’s matchup against Florida will be a good measuring stick for the Wildcats since the Gators are one of the SEC’s top teams.

Florida has had to adjust to life without Keyontae Johnson, who is out for the rest of the season due to a heart condition, and looked to be in good shape by winning their first two games after his collapse on the court at Florida State in December. The optimism has dulled a bit after the Gators got blown out in Tuscaloosa, losing by 15 to an Alabama team that is currently 3-0 in SEC play.

Whoever wins this contest would be well-positioned to push the Crimson Tide and Tennessee for the top spot in the conference, making it a big measuring-stick game. Winning here is much more important for Kentucky, which needs to find as many quality victories as it can down the stretch.
