The Seattle Seahawks’ offensive struggles reared its ugly head in the second quarter against the Los Angeles Rams.

Entering their Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Rams, the expectation was that points would be hard to come by for the Seattle Seahawks. That was evident throughout the first half, as Seahawks were held to just three points. The frustration was visible, as wide receiver DK Metcalf was having vocal outbursts on the sideline while tossing his helmet in disgust.

Well, Metcalf didn’t have any reason to get happier.

Midway through the second quarter, quarterback Russell Wilson targeted Metcalf on a screen pass. The problem was that Rams cornerback Darious Williams read the play like a book, as he squeezed past Metcalf and Freddie Swain to pick off the pass and return it for a touchdown, extending Los Angeles’ lead to 13-3.

The pain didn’t last long for the Seahawks

On this play, it was both a bad pass by Wilson and a beautiful read by Williams. It’s as simple as that.

This interception was Williams’ third of the season against the Seahawks. According to the NFL Media Research Department, the last player to have more interceptions against a single opponent in a season was DeAngelo Hall in 2010, who had four interceptions in a game against the Chicago Bears.

The Seahawks didn’t wallow in self-pity after that play, because on their very next drive, they put points on the board. Wilson would drop the proverbial dime in the bucket on a 51-yard touchdown pass to Metcalf, cutting Seattle’s deficit to 13-10 in the waning seconds of the first half.
