Yes, the Jets botched their “Tank for Trevor” by winning two games late in the season (over two teams now in the Divisional Round, but the way).

With a quarterback decision looming, to either keep Sam Darnold for at least another year or taking someone second overall, the Jets have cap space ($70.68 million right now, via Over The Cap) and draft capital (two first-round picks this year, etc.) to reload the roster for a new head coach.

The Jets have a promising young receiver in Denzel Mims, but beyond that the cupboard isn’t exactly stocked. Maybe Jamison Crowder and/or Breshad Perriman are re-signed or someone is drafted, but wide receiver stands as a position general manager Joe Douglas will look to address from any and all angles this offseason.

If Smith-Schuster wants to be a proverbial No. 1 guy somewhere, and get paid in line with that status (right or wrong, smartly for a team or not), the Jets can deliver the role and the contract if they want to. An offer he can’t easily refuse may come.
