Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 2. player. AFC. West. Denver Broncos. 45

Look for the post-Peyton Manning quarterbacking search to finally end

It was not that long ago the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers. Then again, that was eons ago in the NFL. Flash forward five seasons and the Broncos have one of the longest active playoff droughts in the league. Their single biggest issue has been their inability to get the quarterback position right after Peyton Manning retired as a two-time Super Bowl champ.

Denver has tried to convince itself that any number of guys is the heir apparent to Manning in the Mile High City. Though there are some contingencies of Broncos Country who believe Drew Lock could be that guy, it is more of wishful thinking at this point. By adding Fields, it gives the Broncos a leg to stand on in the AFC West quarterbacking hierarchy. They desperately need that.

As long as the Kansas City Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, the division will run through Arrowhead Stadium. As long as Justin Herbert continues to progress for the Los Angeles Chargers, they will be a competitive team as well. While the Raiders’ quarterbacking future is not as strong as the Chiefs or the Chargers, Carr has been a stabilizing force for the organization for close to a decade now.

The good news for the Broncos is they do not have far to move up into the Fields sweepstakes. Denver picks No. 9 overall in the upcoming draft. As with the Raiders, they will have to deal with the teams picking at No. 2 and No. 3 being in the same conference as them. However, the Broncos will not have to give up as much as the Raiders would to pull off a trade with the Jets or Dolphins.
