Aaron Rodgers is having one of the best seasons of a great career, and a wide swath of numbers further show it all.

The Green Bay Packers drew criticism by taking a quarterback in the first round of last year’s draft, but they’ll surely take the end result. On their way to the No. 1 seed in the NFC, Aaron Rodgers is having one of the best seasons of his Hall of Fame career.

Rodgers led the league with 48 touchdown passes during the regular season, with Tom Brady and Russell Wilson tying for second with 40. It’s the third time in his career he has thrown at least 40 touchdowns, and he also threw just five interceptions. Not throwing many interceptions is nothing new, but this year it didn’t come at the expense of production (8.2 yards per attempt, a league-best 9.6 adjusted yards per attempt).

Heading into Saturday’s Divisional Round game against the Los Angeles Rams, Rodgers has not thrown an interception in his last 161 postseason pass attempts at home. Narrowing back to this year he has been a top-end passer off play-action, which is the only weakness the Rams’ defense seems to have.

So just over one-fourth of Rodgers career interceptions have been tipped somehow. Even allowing for subjectivity, bias or general randomness, that’s incredible in the context of a career touchdown-to-interception that’s already close to 5:1.

The only one who has posted a higher passer rating for a season than Rodgers did this year was Rodgers himself, in his first league MVP season (2011). And that was only by a single rating point. He’s surely going to add a third MVP to his resume this year.

Rodgers has thrown 74 touchdown passes over the last two seasons. He has thrown 40 of them in the end zone, without a single interception in that area of the field.

Whatever else is in play, rumors of Rodgers’ decline over the last few years have proven to been greatly exaggerated this year. The only thing that would make the season better is another Super Bowl ring.
