The Cleveland Browns gifting the Kansas City Chiefs the ball to start Sunday’s game was absolutely senseless.

What in the world was Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski thinking on Sunday going up against the Kansas City Chiefs? In a Divisional Round showdown at Arrowhead Stadium, the Browns won the toss and had a chance to punch the Chiefs right in the mouth with a great opening drive.

Instead, Stefanski and the Browns decided to defer instead. So, instead of landing some early blows, Cleveland kicked the ball off to one of the most explosive offenses in the game. How’d that work out for them?

The Browns lost before the game even started

Kansas City received the opening kick and then wasted no time driving down the field and scoring the game’s first touchdown. Patrick Mahomes went a perfect 4-for-4 throwing the ball to start things off, then closed that first drive off with a one-yard rushing score. He then celebrated in style, throwing the pigskin high into the sky at Arrowhead Stadium. That ball probably still hasn’t landed.

Luckily for Cleveland, Harrison Butker somehow missed the PAT, meaning Kansas City only jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Still, the Chiefs’ touchdown came at the 9:11 mark, meaning it took less than six minutes for the home team to jump out in front, with Cleveland now forced to come from behind.

It’s quite literally a recipe for disaster, as the last thing Cleveland wanted was to see Mahomes and the Chiefs get off to such a strong start. Instead, the Browns could have made a statement with a terrific opening drive of their own. Stefanski no question will end up regretting this monster mistake.
