The New Orleans Saints need to sign these free agents to make a run to the Super Bowl.

Four. Make it four different times that the New Orleans Saints have suffered a heartbreaking loss in the postseason. For three straight years, the NFC South’s best team was inches away from moving on, yet lost at the final second.

Drew Brees had four chances to bring another title to the franchise. That dream is now likely over. With a broadcasting career in the wings and a chance to save his body, the Saints will be saying goodbye to one of the greatest to ever call plays under center the league has ever seen.

To make things worse, they’ll be fighting against the cap space.  For the Saints, Mickey Loomis will need to pull out all the tricks to make sure their roster remains strong heading into 2021.

Jared Cook was a gem find for the Saints back in 2019. He’s been an easy security blanket for the Brees short-game and a constant mover of chains. He’s also been a quality blocker to help Alvin Kamara transform into an All-Pro back.

He’ll be owed $2 million that could easily go to another name or help with extensions. It won’t save the Saints any money should they cut him, but it also won’t help to keep him with the emergence of Adam Trautman. Unless they can restructure his contract, this is probably the way to go.

Trautman only has 15 career catches, so his status as a top tight end still is in question. Gerald Everett never became that superstar target for the Los Angeles Rams, but he is an athletic mismatch in the slot and does a good job converting on third and short.

If the Saints can bring in Everett on a “prove-it” type contract, that would allow New Orleans to see what they have in their second-year target. Given his age and upside, Everett could be a name that just needed to be put in the right system. Perhaps Pete Carmichael’s style of play is the right fit.
