8. Calvin Johnson – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Calvin Johnson might be the best player to play the wide receiver position when both the NCAA and NFL are considered. Of course, Jerry Rice would have something to say about it, but Johnson was just a physical anomaly that turned into a stud almost immediately. He was recruited by Georgia, Miami and Notre Dame, but he chose to go to Georgia Tech.

Johnson won the Biletnikoff in 2006, was named an All-American in his last two years in school and broke every record his school had. He finished his career with 178 catches, just under 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns. He had at least 800 yards each season with Reggie Ball at quarterback. He definitely got the best out of his team.

Johnson finished tenth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2006, the season he had 1,202 yards and 15 touchdowns. Just to show how good he was, when he faced the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Gator Bowl, probably one of the best opponents of his career, he put on the jets and had 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson’s professional career might outgain his college career, but what he did at Georgia Tech is nothing to scoff at. It was clear very early he was going to be one of the best to ever catch balls.
