Free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto is still looking for a new home, and now the Atlanta Braves have emerged as a new team interested in his services.

Little by little, we’re starting to see some of the biggest names in the bigs start to sign with new teams. However, one of the game’s top catchers is yet to sign — J.T. Realmuto. The standout backstop continues to gauge interest from new squads, with the Phillies also hoping to re-sign him.

However, a new organization has stepped in to show interest in him. Unfortunately for Phillies fans, they’re not going to like the new suitor one bit.

The Atlanta Braves signing J.T. Realmuto would break countless hearts in Philadelphia

Per MLB insider Robert Murray, the Atlanta Braves of all teams have entered the Realmuto sweepstakes. On paper, this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for Atlanta, especially since they already have Travis d’Arnaud and have to shell out some big bucks to star players in the near future.

With that being said, Realmuto indeed is among the best catchers in the game. If he’s available and the Atlanta front office thinks they can get him to Truist Park on a smart deal, then they’d be fools not to see what they can make happen.

Plus, it’d be an added bonus to steal Realmuto away from the Phillies. Philadelphia has made it quite clear they’d love Realmuto to return, with slugger Bryce Harper also letting the front office know he wants his good friend back in the lineup next season. Yet, the longer the Phillies wait to present the right offer on the table, the more opportunities other teams have to sign him. We’ll see if Atlanta ends up being the team to do so.
