The Philadelphia Eagles ended their head coaching search on Thursday, hiring Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni.

Sirianni is of the Frank Reich coaching tree, making him an intriguing fit with Carson Wentz, who the Eagles are now fully committed to following the decision to fire former head coach Doug Pederson. If he’s anything like Reich, it should be an easy transition for Wentz and the Eagles, as the former Philly OC took his talents to Indy in February of 2018. Wentz hasn’t been the same since, but bringing in a protege suggests a move to revive his skill-set, assuming it still remains dormant.

While the decision to fire Pederson was a surprising one, it seemed like a mutual parting of ways more than the Super Bowl-winning coach getting axed. The sides had grown tired of one another, and as is the case so often in sports, a divorce was necessary for both parties.

The Eagles made the right hire after flirting with some truly terrible options

Eagles fans can thank their lucky stars the team opted against Josh McDaniels, who was universally deemed the worst option available for them. While we understand Philly’s need for a quarterback guru of sorts, McDaniels was a step in the wrong direction on many other fronts.

Because of this, the majority of the NFL is praising the Eagles for the Sirianni hire.

The majority of takes avoid the doom and gloom of Emmanuel Acho, but it’s important to be a realist in terms of head coaching hires. Sirianni is young, and there are bound to be some bumps and bruises along the way. But for the first time in awhile, the Eagles have a reason to feel optimistic.

Next. Nick Sirianni isn’t the popular choice but is the best one for the Eagles’ future. dark
