Tennessee hires UCF athletic director Danny White to succeed Phil Fulmer
The Tennessee Volunteers have found their man, as the school has hired Central Florida’s Danny White to be the new athletic director.
It didn’t take long for the Tennessee Volunteers to find the man to fill the massive shoes of Phil Fulmer as athletic director. On Thursday USA Today’s Dan Wolken broke the news that UCF athletic director Danny White is coming to take the same position at Tennessee.
White’s first order of business after getting on campus will no question be to find a new head football coach. Nothing but controversy has surrounded the Tennessee program this week following the firing of head coach Jeremy Pruitt.
Danny White has a good track record of head coaching hires
To make matters even worse for the Vols, a report came out saying that among the countless recruiting violations Tennessee committed, one of them included giving recruits cash via McDonald’s bags.
That report alone had Vols fans furious with what Pruitt was allowing to happen while running the football team. Fortunately for Tennessee fans, White has done a tremendous job hiring coaches in the past, of course including bringing Scott Frost to UCF. No one has forgotten about the Knights going a perfect 13-0 in 2017, highlighted by their Peach Bowl win over Auburn and laying claim to a national title.
He’s also hired basketball coaches Bobby Hurley and Nate Oats as well as football coach Lance Leipold while at Buffalo.
Pressure will now be on White to make another home-run hire, this time bringing in a quality coach to help turn around things at Tennessee. It won’t be easy to replace a Vols legend like Fulmer, but Tennessee has gone out and made quite a splash in hiring White.
