Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers leaves the field following the NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams at Lambeau Field on Jan. 16, 2021, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers defeated the Rams 32-18.

This was an incredible game for the Green Bay Packers offense. They accumulated almost 500 yards of total offense and 32 points against the top-rated Los Angeles Rams defense. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues to be the front runner for the league MVP, producing three touchdowns and threw for 296 passing yards just in this game. As you can see in this image, Rodgers celebrating the win after beating the Rams 32-18 and advancing to the NFC Championship Game this weekend against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Abbey Weitzeil leads in the Women’s 100 Meter Freestyle heats on Day Four of the TYR Pro Swim Series at San Antonio on Jan. 17, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas.

Most sports coverage in the US during the COVID-19 pandemic has meant photographers having access limited to the stands. We’ve become custom to bringing long lenses to try and make the best of a tough shooting position in order to accommodate safety protocols. Luckily while covering the TYR Pro Swim Series at San Antonio, photographers were able to gain access to the pool. Between sessions while the pool was empty, I was able to set up several GoPro cameras to capture a different perspective. The race in this photograph, the 100 Meter Freestyle, can be tough for photos above water. The athletes are motoring through the water so quickly that often the splashes of water cover their faces. Here I was happy to be able to illustrate Abbey Weitzeil’s strength, leading the competition in this preliminary heat.

Olivia Serafini and Mervin Tran compete in the pairs short program during the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Orleans Arena on Jan. 14, 2021, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This photo was taken during the pairs short program of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Competitors have two minutes and forty seconds to perform their routine while completing seven elements or moves. Although this was my first time photographing figure skating, I quickly began to love how it blends peak action with art. While Olivia Serafini and Mervin Tran were competing, I tried to focus extra hard on the subtle details of their movements and timing on leaps and throws. I’m always hoping for some kind of interesting expression while shooting, and I especially love making sports pictures that break the fourth wall.
