Oscar da Silva’s buzzer-beating layup gives Stanford the huge win over No. 24 UCLA
Saturday night featured some Pac-12 action between the UCLA Bruins and Stanford Cardinal. UCLA, ranked 24th in the nation entering this weekend, were looking to continue their rise up the rankings. However, senior forward Oscar da Silva had other ideas for his rivals.
In the waning seconds of overtime, UCLA held a 72-71 lead thanks to a layup and successful free throw by guard Tyger Campbell. Stanford would get the ball back on a block by Bruins forward Jalen Hill. Stanford guard Michael O’Connell inbounded the ball to a wide open da Silva in the paint and scored the layup to give Stanford the 73-72 buzzer-beater win.
da Silva’s heroics lead Stanford to victory
da Silva shot 8-for-15 from the field and 1-for-3 from the three-point line to record a team-high 26 points, five rebounds and four assists. Johnny Juzang’s 27 points, four rebounds and three steals weren’t enough to give the Bruins their 13th win of the season.
Stanford will look to carry this momentum into their next game against the Arizona Wildcats on Thursday. Meanwhile, UCLA will look to get back in the win column when they face the No. 21 Oregon Ducks on Thursday.
