The Buffalo Bills are a team on the rise. However, they still will need several pieces to be a full-time threat in the AFC.

The road to the Super Bowl came up short in the AFC Championship Game with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sean McDermott has built the Bills’ offense to be one of the league’s best. The team also has excelled at drafting, finding immediate playmakers in each of the last of the two seasons. That’s good, but it’s certainly not enough.

Until proven otherwise, the Bills will always be chasing the shadow of Kansas City. With these moves this offseason, maybe they won’t.

The Bills’ secondary is quite good. They have perhaps the best combination of safeties in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Meanwhile, Tre’Davious White is already a shutdown cornerback in the league thanks in part because of McDermott’s scheme.

The rest of the pieces still need some work. Levi Wallace is an upside No.2 option, but he’s shown inconsistencies over the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Taron Johnson shows bursts in the nickel, but never a balanced game overall.

The San Francisco 49ers will have to make several tough decisions this offseason and defense takes most of the control. With the league turning into three-receiver sets daily, K’Waun Williams has developed into one of the more undervalued slot corners. He’s constantly making plays in coverage and is willing to play the run.

Buffalo could be out multiple names this offseason, meaning the draft will focus on dire needs. Williams won’t garner a huge contract, but he certainly fits McDermott’s 4-2-5 scheme. For the right price, he’ll add near-flawless play in a position that’s becoming essential in today’s NFL.
