USC football: Trojans land Texas transfer Keaontay Ingram
By John Buhler
Keaontay Ingram is leaving the Texas football program to join the USC football team.
After three years with the Texas Longhorns, running back Keaontay Ingram will be heading westward to join the USC Trojans in 2021.
Ingram was a former four-star recruit by the Texas football program out of Carthage, Texas in the Class of 2018. In three years at Austin, Ingram amassed 339 carries for 1,811 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. As a receiver he had 67 catches for 515 yards and six trips to pay dirt. He joins a USC football team that came up one win short of winning a Pac-12 Championship.
“First off, I want to thank God for the blessing and opportunities he presented me with!!!,” wrote Ingram on a Twitter message. “Thank you Coach Drayton for the opportunity. Thank you to all the coaches for [the] opportunity. Thank you to all the people who [have] helped me along the way with this decision!”
“To my fellow brothers y’all know Tay is a phone call away, and love all you guys! Thank you for accepting me with open arms!! To Longhorn Nation, I want to say thank you and love you and bleeding orange will forever be part of me!!!!”
Will Keaontay Ingram find what he is looking for at USC?
Because last year does not count, Ingram has two more years of collegiate eligibility left to use at USC. While he does play running back, a position where you usually want to turn pro as quickly as possible, Ingram does have a fair amount of tread still left on the tires. While he had never been a 1,000-yard rusher at Texas, that is what is ahead of him if he rises to the occasion at USC.
A reason for Ingram leaving Texas may be that he felt the pressure from Bijan Robinson in the Longhorns running back room. Another could be that his former head coach Tom Herman is no longer with the program. It is interesting that Ingram is joining the last team incoming Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian use to lead in USC. Either way, this is a huge get for Clay Helton‘s program.
The Trojans should once again have one of the better offenses in the entire Pac-12 Conference.
