Penn State is losing backup quarterback Will Levis to the transfer portal.

The Penn State Nittany Lions had a weird season in 2020. They got off to an 0-5 start, only to play with some pride and finish the year at 4-5.

Things got so bad early that head coach decided to go with quarterback Will Levis as the starter against Iowa in the fifth game of the year. This came after Levis got time the week prior at Nebraska.

Levis did not last long and Sean Clifford was able to regain his starting role and hold it heading into 2021. A competition was set to be had, but Levis has decided to enter the transfer portal instead.

Penn State loses Levis

Levis still has plenty of football left in him as he is a graduate transfer with three years of eligibility remaining. This could allow him to head somewhere and show up as the starter if he is fine with leaving a conference like the Big Ten.

The now former Nittany Lion had 421 passing yards and one touchdown in 2020. He also added ran for 260 yards and three scores. However, he failed to do enough to supplant Clifford and will seek to be a starter elsewhere.

Penn State will now enter 2021 with Clifford atop the depth chart. Both Ta’Quan Roberson and true freshman Christian Veillux sit behind him. The veteran Clifford should be safe barring a total collapse at the start of next season.

One thing to note about Levis is he did in fact graduate from Penn State. So he is technically an alumni and seeking out a new career as a graduate transfer. Maybe he can land a job that will allow him to march into Happy Valley and prove he should have been the starter all along.
