Tennessee Volunteers fans will be fuming when they find out how much the school will be paying Kevin Steele.

Tennessee fans, students and alums are still fired up over the news that former UFC head coach Josh Heupel will be taking over the Vols’ football team. Now that he’s in Knoxville, Heupel will be set to bring in a new staff to join him as well.

While that’s exciting, former Tennessee assistants will now be looking for new jobs. The list includes Kevin Steele, who was hired earlier this month by Jeremy Pruitt. Pruitt of course has since been fired by the Vols for the concerning recruiting scandal.

While this was an exciting hire at the time, Steele is already on his way out. Oh, and he’ll be doing so $900,000 richer.

Tennessee paying Kevin Steele $900,000 for about two weeks of work is awful

Unfortunately for the Vols, Steele signed a two-year, guaranteed contract worth $450,000 per season. Therefore, with him all set to leave the team, they still have to pay him the full $900,000 he agreed to.

A reminder, Tennessee hired Steele on Jan. 12. Now, a little over two weeks later, Tennessee’s program has completely changed.

No one expected Pruitt to get fired, but the recruiting violations, including reportedly giving prospects money in McDonald’s bags, were shocking to find out about. Fortunately, new athletic director Danny White, who also came from UCF, didn’t waste much time in finding Pruitt’s replacement in Heupel.

While that of course is great news, throwing away $900,000 like that has got to be infuriating for Vols fans everywhere. If anything, it only adds to the anger countless folks have out there for Pruitt, who really set things on fire for the program on his way out of town.
